Just listed by most major Citizen vendors, the new models are ready for release on February 1st and it’s a nice batch of products, all Eco-Drive, all substantially discounted. This post discusses a number of the more interesting models.
Citizen Men’s BJ2119-06E Eco-Drive Promaster Depth Meter Watch

All new for 2012, scheduled for release on February 1st, this ISO certified Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Diver 50 minute chronograph (can be used as elapsed dive timer) BJ2119-06E (for metric depth markings, buy the -09E version) features an orange rubber strap, black sunray chronograph dial, black IP stainless steel case, mineral crystal, luminous hands and markers (bright enough for underwater use), rotating ratcheting engraved elapsed time bezel, depth meter (to 50m with maximum depth memory), screw down case back and crown, water resistant to 660 feet, 12-24 hour time, date display window, and Citizen Eco-Drive movement powered by light. Size is 48mm X 16mm. Citizen guarantees their watches for five years.
Though it is not their slickest diver technology, it certainly is a “looker” that will draw attention and it;s depth and timer functions will come in handy for those who want an uncomplicated device to measure how deep and how long their single dive is. Divers that make multiple dives or trips on airplanes on the same day as they dive should consider more sophisticated watches (click here to see a selection of professional diver watches) or dive computers.

This blogger is always attracted to watches that have lots of useful features, manual rotating inner chapter ring slide rule and dense dial markings, It’s a bit flashy, certainly a dress-up watch with its gold-tone finish, but would match nicely when worn with gold cuff links, wedding band, tie tack, with black shoes and black belt – gold-tone buckle black shirt and a brown or tan suit (just me, guys – I like to make the outfit fit the watch). It is large, not because big is the current fashion but because it needs to be to fit all the useful features. This watch is a bold statement to anyone who notices such things, “here’s a man of intelligence and action!”
This model will also be available in a brown and red dial version, sporting a dark brown leather strap – model BL5403-03X. The discounted price will be around $320. For those of you who like the features but want it in black, the BL5405-59E is for you ($394). The predecessor to these watches is the BL5400-52 (silver-tone case and band), is still available and has been seen on eBay for as low as $250.

Citizen Men’s BM8475-26E Eco-Drive Strap Watch

Orange luminous hands, large, easy to read numbers and markings on a black dial and IP black stainless case give this 42mm X 11mm timepiece a sporty look. It has a day-date display window, lumed second hand and machined crown.. The brown strap is not to this blogger’s taste – the watch would look a whole lot better with a replacement.
Citizen Men’s BL6052-51E, BL6057-58E, BL6050-57E Eco-Drive Palidoro Watch
A classic rectangular dress watch, the Palidoro series comes in gold-tone, IP Black or silver-tone. All have eight flawless ideal natural cut diamonds marking hours on their black dial that really dresses up their overall presentation. With a water resistance of 99 feet, all stainless steel case, back and deployment style (button) bracelet, and curved scratch resistant mineral crystal, they are as durable as a dress watch could ever need to be. At only 8mm thick, you don’t have to worry about this watch style fitting under your French cuffs. Gold and black watches are $262.50 and the silver-tone is $244.

Citizen CA0265-59E Eco-Drive Titanium

Despite not being a brand new release, this late model product is one that screams for some attention. Remarkably well priced, this one is built to last and not be too heavy of all titanium – and I mean all: crown, case and back, bracelet, and even the pushers. Appropriately the crystal is anti-reflective coated sapphire. An interesting feature among the complications is an anomalous switching of function – the large second hand is used for the chrono and the seconds sub-dial (at 6) continuously spins as time-keeping seconds. This is a great feature for those who use the stop-watch – the big second hand sweeping easier to read the critical seconds.. nice touch!
